Humanin is a mitochondria-derived research peptide composed of 24 amino acids (MAPRGFSCLLLLTSEIDLPVKRRA). Originally identified within the mitochondrial 16S rRNA region, preclinical research indicates that Humanin interacts with the FPRL1 receptor as well as the CNTFR/WSX-1/gp130 receptor complex. Through these interactions, it is associated with the regulation of apoptotic processes and oxidative stress responses. As a result, Humanin is extensively investigated for its involvement in mitochondrial communication, protein homeostasis, and neuroendocrine signaling pathways.
